Of the high-silica twe e cross-ring pore zeolites, the Beta zeolite is the only one with a threedimensional structure. Its skeletal structure incorporates two different yet closely related symbiotic mixed access network structures. The skeletal structure includes one set of linear
channels and one set of linear access routes. The access routes are located at the intersections, formed by bending, within the two-channel system. Since the β zeolite doesn’t have a cage, full cation exchange can take place.
Applications
Due to its strong acidity and unique three-dimensional pore structure, the Beta zeolite’s thermal and hydrothermal stability are higher than the Y-type zeolite’s. The Beta zeolite is widely used during catalytic cracking, hydrotreating, hydroisomerization, alkylation, esterification, aromatics disproportionation, macromolecular methylnaphthalene disproportionation, the amination of alcohols, etc.
